CAMFT Diversity Committee

Mission Statement / Meetings / Meeting Directions / Special Events / Awards / Resource List / Membership List / Education / E-mail Contact

Draft mission statement:  The CAMFT diversity committee seeks to promote awareness and understanding for the uniqueness of individuals, families and communities to better inform the practice of marriage and family therapy and to provide support and information for its members.

The newest of the CAMFT committees, the CAMFT diversity committee was started in the fall of 2002 by St. Joseph student Nelba  Márquez-Greene.  Now boasting over 10 members, the committee was designed with the  following goals in mind:

  1. Implementing strategies to recruit, retain and promote at all levels of the CAMFT diverse staff and leadership.

  2. Ensuring that CAMFT members at all levels have access to and receive ongoing diversity education and training.

  3. Developing participatory and collaborative partnerships with diverse community agencies, groups and organizations.

  4. Implementing strategies to recruit and retain students from under-represented groups into MFT programs in CT .

  5. Determining ways to present data/cases that will reflect appropriate level competencies including but not limited to the proper use and misuse of data/case presentations as well as links to informational materials about subject populations.

  6. Conducting a baseline assessment of MFT training programs and CAMFT membership (How many students/members from underrepresented populations are there in 2002? How many would we like to see in 2012?)

  7. Collaborating with universities and colleges in CT in order to promote the field of MFT at the undergraduate level .

  8. Establishing a scholarship fund .

  9. Creating spaces for dialogue, conversation and sharing on issues concerning diversity, particularly those topics which are often difficult to talk about.
